How Battery Storage Works
A home battery, also known as a residential energy storage system, is a device that stores electricity generated from from the grid (or from your solar panels) during off-peak times. It then releases that stored energy when it’s needed, such as during periods of high energy demand, power outages, or when energy costs are higher.
Don’t be in the dark, power your home and keep your lights on in a power outage.
What happens during a power outage?
- Your battery makes the transition seamless.
- It instantly disconnects you from the grid and starts powering your home.
- When the grid power has been restored, the battery disconnects and reconnects your home to the grid.
Do I need solar to have a battery?
- No, a battery can be installed without solar.
- Solar panels do allow you to recharge your batteries when the grid is down and the sun is up.
What happens during a power outage?
- The duration of backup power depends on the capacity of the battery and the power drawn from the appliances you're running.
